About
" Psychological stress is as much a function of how we see the world as how the world really is."
Dr Paul Martin
I am an experienced and skilful counsellor/social worker able to work with all members of substitute and reconstituted families as well as with individuals and couples in distress. My CV is available for download.
November 1995 – present
Freelance social worker working in partnership with Local Authorities and voluntary agencies in a consultative capacity in relation to adoption and fostering work.
Since 1997 I have been practising as a humanistic integrative counsellor. I am accredited with B.A.C.P and registered with U.K.R.C. The majority of my counselling work is through short term contracts with General Practitioners in the Durham area though longer term work is undertaken through other contracts and through various private clients.
The individuals and couples who approach for counselling bring various difficulties to their sessions. Regularly the areas of stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, eating distress, abuse, addictions, bereavement, trauma, panic attacks, couples counselling, obsessions and phobias are presented. The work is mainly short term (6 sessions) though long term therapy is offered where necessary.
Past - 1977 to 1995
I began my social work career with Catholic Rescue Society (now St. Cuthbert’s care) a child care agency in the Northeast. While working with this agency I gained skills in working with families in need. The agency was also an adoption agency and I progressed from basic grade social worker to senior social worker, adoption officer and eventually to Principal Adoption and Fostering Officer. During my time with the agency I managed teams of workers and was responsible for budgets allocated to the social work and adoption and fostering teams.
